The Chosen Season 5 Cast

Season 5 brings back the principal actors who have portrayed Jesus and his followers throughout the series. Their established relationships become especially important as the story moves closer to the events surrounding Jesus’ arrest.

Actor	Character
Jonathan Roumie	Jesus
Shahar Isaac	Simon Peter
Elizabeth Tabish	Mary Magdalene
Paras Patel	Matthew
Luke Dimyan	Judas Iscariot

Jonathan Roumie remains at the heart of the drama as Jesus, whose teachings and actions bring him into increasingly serious conflict with Jerusalem’s religious leadership.

Shahar Isaac returns as Simon Peter, while Elizabeth Tabish and Paras Patel reprise their roles as Mary Magdalene and Matthew. Luke Dimyan’s portrayal of Judas becomes particularly significant as the story moves toward betrayal, adding tension to the relationships the series has developed over previous seasons.

What Happens in The Chosen Season 5?

Season 5 centers on the period traditionally associated with the beginning of Holy Week, when Jesus enters Jerusalem ahead of Passover.

His arrival draws large crowds, but the excitement also brings growing tension. Religious authorities become increasingly concerned about his influence, especially after he confronts the commercial activity taking place at the Temple.

As Jesus continues teaching, religious leaders question his authority and search for a way to arrest him without provoking public unrest. Roman officials, meanwhile, remain watchful for disturbances in Jerusalem during the crowded Passover period.

The disciples are dealing with uncertainties of their own. Some struggle to understand what Jesus is preparing them for, while Judas becomes involved in decisions that could have devastating consequences for the group.

The season draws on events described in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. However, The Chosen is a historical drama, not a scene-by-scene reproduction of scripture. Its dialogue, character relationships, and some supporting storylines involve creative interpretation, even when the central events come from biblical accounts.

Themes of loyalty, betrayal, sacrifice, and authority run throughout the story. The disciples must confront the growing distance between what they expected from Jesus and what he has been telling them about the days ahead.

At the center of it all is the Last Supper, where these larger conflicts become deeply personal. The gathering also prepares viewers for the events of Season 6, which will follow Jesus’ final day.

The Chosen Season 5 Ending Explained (Spoilers)

Spoiler Warning: The following section discusses major developments in the Season 5 finale.

The eighth episode, The Upper Room Part II, brings the Last Supper storyline to a close while making the danger surrounding Jesus and his disciples increasingly clear.

During the meal, Jesus’ words and actions emphasize service, loyalty, and sacrifice. The gathering feels especially significant because his remaining time with the disciples is running out, even though they still don’t fully understand what is coming.

Judas’ secret activities make the situation even more unsettling. His involvement in the developing plot against Jesus connects the disciples’ private gathering with the authorities’ efforts to find and arrest their teacher.

Elsewhere, Pontius Pilate confronts Atticus as the political situation becomes harder to control. Tensions also rise within the Sanhedrin, the Jewish religious council, where opposition to Jesus has been building throughout the season.

Together, these developments make it clear that the danger is approaching from several directions. Religious leaders are determined to act, Roman authorities fear further unrest, and Judas’ choices bring the threat closer to Jesus’ inner circle.

The finale ends the Last Supper storyline without depicting the crucifixion. Instead, it sets the stage f1w11or Jesus’ arrest, suffering, and death. According to the show’s official Season 6 preview, those events will form the central focus of the next installment.
